Experiencing the painful, blistering rash that is characteristic of Shingles? Getting treatment started quickly is crucial to reduce the severity and duration of the illness.
At Hornsey Pharmacy, our trained pharmacists can now assess and, where clinically appropriate, provide NHS-funded antiviral medication for Shingles through the Pharmacy First Service, without you needing to wait for a GP appointment.

The Shingles Pharmacy First Service Explained

Shingles (herpes zoster) is a viral infection that causes a painful rash, usually on one side of the body. Timely treatment with antiviral drugs can significantly help. Our pharmacist-led service provides this essential care right in your community.

Who is eligible?

This service is for adults aged 18 years and over with symptoms suggestive of an acute shingles infection.
Crucially, antiviral treatment is most effective when started within 72 hours (3 days) of the rash first appearing. Don’t delay—come and see us straight away!
